Helping a community identify forest acquisition options
The City of Jacksonville, Florida had a long tradition of facilitating land purchases for conservation and preservation. The city, which was working in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy, was particularly interested in assessing its capacity to provide long-term protection to private forests on its perimeter that faced significant conversion and development pressure.
US Forest Capital was engaged to conduct a feasibility study to determine how Jacksonville might eventually structure a program to acquire large-scale forestlands at the city’s edge. US Forest Capital’s work gave the City of Jacksonville and The Nature Conservancy a working blue-print for forest conservation and helped educate its public officials about the opportunities available to them for expanding their legacy of land preservation.
