Land Exchange Design and Public Advocacy
A rural Oregon landowner owned property that was heavily impacted by endangered species restrictions. He wanted to explore exchanging this environmentally sensitive land for lands owned by the Federal government that were not similarly encumbered. His goal was to optimize the long-term conservation of his lands while gaining access to others upon which he could conduct harvesting and forest operations.
US Forest Capital was engaged by the landowner to structure his proposal in a way that would minimize the inherent conflicts and garner support from Congress. As a result, funds were appropriated to undertake a land exchange study.
