While people continue to debate how much forestland should be protected and commercially managed, US Forest Capital is creating a new forest financing tool that brings parties together who have disagreed in the past.
Community Forestry Bonds allow qualified buyers to tap into the taxable or tax-exempt bond markets for the purpose of financing working forests. These private financial markets issue about $300 billion in new securities annually and allow people to directly invest in securities that provide public benefits. As applied to working forests, this market would allow landowners to monetize their public conservation values while also allowing the buyer to leverage various capital sources in a way that helps them finance transactions from tens to hundreds of millions of dollars.
Our long list of supporters shows that the timber industry, finance and environmental communities can work together!
